Ten Minutes in May

In May 2007 I had a good luck of photographing a gorgeous storm that crossed just east of Missoula right at dusk. Lightning is perhaps my favorite of nature’s subjects to capture, so I was elated to get a number of strikes using my 50mm lens and 20-30 second exposures. As the twilight faded I kept opening my aperture further, and my three best exposures came at 20 seconds at F8, F5 and F4 over a 10 minute period.

Two years and two months after the fact it finally occurred to me that I could use Photoshop’s awesome Photo Merge feature to stitch together those three shots since they overlapped as I followed the storm north with lens. I turned out as good as I could have hopped. What a cool night.
